The most compelling aspect of the Tesla is its combination of efficiency, quality, environmental sustainability, and luxury into one cohesive and suave vehicle. Luxury cars are not rare. Electric luxury cars are. The Tesla runs entirely off of a heavy battery pack, there is no v12 engine. The battery can be charged either at home with a home charger or at one of the many Supercharger stations laid out across the US, Europe, China, and Japan. Reality check: this car has zero carbon emissions. In the design process of the vehicle, the battery was chosen to lay flat on the bottom of the frame of the car. This makes the car have a low center of gravity. To compensate for the immense weight of the battery pack, the Tesla needed a light body. The Tesla is the only all aluminum body and chassis car made in North America. Furthermore, the Tesla has the lowest drag coefficient of any car of its size. In regards to the future of Tesla, delivering high quality, electric, and environmentally sustainable vehicles is the top priority. |
Tesla Supercharger

Tesla Motors is currently completing a network of "Supercharger" stations that stretch coast to coast. The Supercharger stations are small rest areas with charging connectors for a six or more Teslas. The stations charge at a rate "Five times faster than anything else", Musk asserted at his TED lecture. He's right. Superchargers can recharge half the battery of a Tesla in 20 minutes. Most electricity in America today is generated by the burning of coal and fossil fuels. To counter this, the Superchargers are powered entirely by solar panels largely from SolarCity. Musk cleverly overlapped the two projects to further unify his efforts to promote 100% clean energy. Best of all- they are free of charge. Musk's goal is for an individual to be able to drive from Los Angeles to New York City using just the Supercharger stations.

Tesla Powerwall

Not only is Tesla Motors making its way into your garage, but its making its way onto the walls of your home. The Tesla Powerwall is the first of its kind, and it's pretty simple. The Powerwall is a large lithium-ion battery, that stores energy during off-peak hours for use during peak hours. The Powerwall integrates with solar panels. The average household consumes most of its energy in the morning and at night time, off-peak hours for solar panels. The function of the Powerwall is to store the energy during the day, which is a time of low energy demand for households, and power the house at night, a time of high energy demand. In a traditional solar panel setting, unused energy generated by solar panels is simply returned back to the grid. With the Powerwall, the excess energy generated throughout the day is stored in the battery for later. Furthermore, in case of any major power outages, the Powerwall can still provide electricity for your house. Elon hopes to someday see a Powerwall in every American household.
Elon Musk is in the process of placing his Gigafactory in Nevada. This new factory will be twenty times larger than any battery factory made beforehand. Assuming that the volume of the batteries purchased increases, the factory would allow the batteries to decrease in price drastically as a result of the ability to manufacture nearly all of the parts of the battery in one factory. Nevada changed quite a few laws, which would allow the new Gigafactory to run at extremely low cost. The Nevada state government would also be adding a large amount of infrastructure around the factory. The reason the factory is worth it to Nevada is because the Gigafactory will provide about 6,500 jobs. |
